I should start a new thread about it

a lot of guys on bb made fun of the progression but it was made by some smart people and I think I made the most progress with it to be honest.  But it was hard to tell for sure since I got it at a really good time for me to increase my numbers

Would definitely take a look at it. I'm always up for learning something new and when I peak on 531 I'll be looking for something to switch to.

I'd like to know opinions on the plus sets.If going for 5+,why do any more than 5 extra reps,or seven extra on the 3+? Is 10 reps on a set not enough? If you can handle 10 in a set comfortably, but have worked enough to know it,then why push further for extra uncomfortable reps and then be like " I got 13 extra and it was bloody hard, form started to break down and I'm totally drained"??

the extra reps with disapear quickly but the number may start low so you need to push the plus sets with as many reps as possible

i'll have to start a new thread for that other program - if anyone is ready to run it let me know with a pm (including your 1 rep max's) and it will push me to get it up right away

I'm curious is all.Personally won't go over 10 in one set,and I know that starters on the program will be able to hit higher reps and they will drop with progression, but don't see the actual need.

Start the thread anyway TM.

Older thread bump.  Only posting because of djflex's last post.  I'm on my 6th cycle of 531.  Since switching from Starting Strength to 531 all of my joints feel much better.

I deload every other cycle.  Every cycle is a bit too much considering I'm not advanced enough to tax my body enough to deload once a month.

Yup.  I ran about 7-8 cycles of 531 and didn't need deloads at first.  Once the weight got heavier I looked forward to them (then couldn't wait for them to be over).  Also, when cutting, it was harder on recovery week to week.

Yeah, I expect that will be the case for me as well.  I really try to plan my deloads around life events like vacations too.

Isn't 5-3-1 BBB V2 a Hybrid program? You do heavy low rep sets and a shit load of 5x10 at 60% sets of the compound lifts! And some assesory work. Sounds like a Hybrid program to me. What you think?

Wendler has several different types of programs but all based on that Big lifts doing 531.  That's the meat and potatoes of it.  It's a great program in that it gives you a lot of latitude on your accessory lifts.  I've done a ton of experimenting while still hitting my big 4 appropriately.
