2xBW dead for reps comp
« on: August 15, 2012, 06:11:19 PM »
Hey guys! In the dead comp thread HardNHeavy and others were tossing out the idea of a 2xBW for reps comp.

Since no one started one.....I figured I would start one.

I am open to what ever anyone wants.....mainly this is just some good camaraderie and hopes to serve as motivation to improve and push it a little.

Here is my stab at rules.

-2xBW on the bar (or within 5 lbs).
-Max reps in a 2 min period...resting either on floor or from dead hang allowed
-Straps allowed
-T&G allowed (within reason....no excessive bouncing)
-last rule....no injuries!

To be fair to the heavier guys, we can even do a wilks score to even out bodyweight. (as lighter guys have a big advantage.....)

All in good fun though....something to push each other a little.

Maybe say run it till end of the year?....

What say you?

I did my first set tonight.....and lets just say it was harder then I thought. (man.....I was sucking wind HARD).....I think I need to do a little cardio.
Will post my entry a little later to get the ball rolling.

On a fun note.....I have TONS of sample stuff floating around...literally a large box full of everything from whey samples, to intra-workouts...to pre-workouts......might send out a little care package to the winner in good fun.

Thread is in the >35 sect of bb.com

I know there are some serious lifters around these parts!

I'm waiting for my copy of Starting Strength, I'm completely re-working my deads. I actually have a vid of myself doing ~ 2X BW X 17 or so when I was doing DC.

deads are brutal. I saw a guy yesterday dead lifting more than I thought he should be able to. He was pulling and just dropping it, you can do that in my gym and no one bats an eye, bumpers are made for that. I'm going to try that, imagine how much gas you would have if you don't have to worry about setting it down?

2x current body weight = eeek 480 lbs. Not doing many reps with that weight. 315-325 i'll knock those out all fuckin day long, but get into the 400+ range and I run out of gas real damn fast.

Yea....the bigger guys have a disadvantage as strength does not scale allometrically.    That is why I said we can use a wilkes calculator to even it out....but in the end it is all good fun.

I think I actually do better at slightly higher weights. (because conditioning does not come into play as much)

A few weeks back I pulled 475x10.....so I was hoping 405 would be in the 20 range....but I just ran out of gas.   My back was not even really tired when I set it down.... You can see how gently I still set it.  (I wanted to feel if my back was tired at all)

I was beat from repping 405x5 but to be honest and fair to myself I really only started putting forth an honest effort with deads in the past month or so. Before that it was just every once in a blue moon.

475x10 is frickin huge.

Deads are one of my favorite exercises, and I credit them for much of my back thickness.   I am just returning to them too.   I always had a hard time trying to find a place for them.   Since I quit squatting, I can now throw them in on leg day.

The 475 by 10 came about in a little friendly comp with HardNHeavy. I think he pulled 7 and I was trash talking him telling him I would pull 10.

I did not know how hard it was going to be till I actually tried it.   I got it....but it was all I had.

This was back in june

I remember once asking BH about building back, and he was like "pull the deads until the last set it's all you can do to get 1-2 reps"

arms wayyyy too far apart. When you grip the bar your arms should be pressing against your knees.

I'm interested in this bit of fun.  However, I'm aiming for two Meets before the end of the year, so training specifically for this after November 17th is in the cards.

Although a 405 for X isn't a bad thought.

Currently sporting 233lbs, so that'd be pushing 4 plates and a quarter plus, I'll certainly not hit ID's x10 post.

Although I am aiming for a 585 pull at the Nov, 17th Meet.
