Advanced Lifters - How Much Protein?
« on: August 29, 2018, 09:35:53 AM »
We all know the general rule for bodybuilding of 1g protein per (lean) pound of bodyweight per day but what about for us dudes that are already solid, do we still need that much?

I'm just wondering if I should worry less about protein and more about carbs these days.  I don't think I'm gonna get any bigger at this point.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

1.6 -2.2g/kg seems to be a sweet spot for most bbers and PL's from what
I've read. Any excess doesn't seem to help or hurt. Maybe a tad higher on a cut.

Older lifters seem to need more toward the higher end because of
reduced MPS (muscle protein synthesis).

Schoenfeld and Helms have done some interesting studies.

My buddy fighting cancer went keto (not for weight loss, but other reasons).  Dropped 50lbs like nothing.  He is 5'7 and stocky dude.   Went from 235 with a gut to 185 and looking great (does not workout but is the type of guy who will come to my house and put 300lbs on the bench and rep it twice to see he has 'still got it'.   Fighting cancer is his goal now, but AMAZING how fast the fat came off him.
