Hey guys, does RPS ever split their meets into 2 days?  These 14 hour meets are rough

If they get enough registrations they do.

Pretty sure I've been to at least 2 and possibly 3 two-day meets.

When I originally signed up for this meet it said it was 2 days with a max of 75.  The deadline was May 11th for registration, but all spots were filled by the 4th so it closed early and somehow ended up being a one day event.

That's weird.  How long was it?

I remember last year the Spring Supremacy was nuts.  We got there around 7:30am and lifting went until 10pm I think.  It was Saturday night and all the restaurants were closed.  Even all the pizza places.  Had to find a bar that was open and get a couple sammiches take-out to take back to our room.

Didn't the NYS Championship go to like 11:30 one year? Was dreaming about steak all day and went to our room and ate pizza.  :(

Honestly I don't recall but for sure the SS last year was nuts.  I think it was almost 10pm when I did my final deadlift and there was another flight.

What usually happens, is Gene breaks it down into 50 lifter sessions.

For instance, the Jersey Rumble was 50 Saturday AM, finished by 230.  50 Saturday PM, finished by 830.  Sunday Morning, was 65 lifters, wrapped at 4pm.

Gene usually gets upset if its 10pm and lifting is still going on.

When I run my Meets, Iím cranking.  At Hellbound last September, we had 35 lifters in a Push/Pull.  Lifting started at 845am, last Deadlift was on the floor at 11:19am.  Yes, it was that fast.

The most difficult part of it, is having Spotters/Loaders that are faster than the announcer.  If the announcer is slow, everything burns out and you canít catch up.  As well, if you have a lot of geared or wrapped lifters, those can slow the time table as well.

Iím sure that Gene will have a discussion with the Meet Director, about the length of the Meet.  It shouldnít have run that late into the day.  Or, they should have split it into two sessions.

Do not fear The Iron, for it does not care.

Thanks Alex! Was hoping you'd chime in since you have run several meets

Flex...I got there at 7:30AM for Squat and bench heights measurements and awards finished after 9PM.  Everything moved fairly quickly through the day, it just took forever, much like my first meet...that one started at 7am for rules and what not then went until 10PM, had a few more lifters.  I really enjoy competing and would probably do more of it, but those 14 hour days are a big turn off for me.

I seem to recall that the infamously long SS meet had reaaallllyyy slow loaders, who were last minute substitutes when the others didn't show up.  But yeah, generally I think Gene times his meets well, sometimes shit happens and it is out of his control.

The rps push pull I did (Alex ran) was super smooth, most of the other ones not so much.  My favorite is the one Jamie Matta runs in the spring because he puts the masters and teens together on Saturday morning.  Starts on time, and you are out of there early.   I hate the way the 198 men lift waaaay into the evening on every two day rps meet I've done.  They want you there for rules at noon, and if you are third flight your lucky to touch a bar until dinner time.  It takes all the fun out of it having to wait around with no idea when you are going to lift, or even find out what flight your in.  And, I'm way too anal to roll in late so I'm usually super early.

Just for reference, I had a handful of friends that did an SPF Meet at a Gym I frequent in CT.  It started an hour late (10am), during the change over from Squat to Bench, the owner of the gym found the judges and Meet director getting stoned out behind the gym.  The change over from Bench to Deadlift, took nearly an hour, due to staff eating, and taking smoke breaks.  50 lifters, and they finished at 10pm that night.  Took three hours for them to pack up.

Tooth knows, if you have a chance or want to, go watch other Feds Meets.  Give one a try, if you really want to.

I've seen some horrendous judging and spotting.  It really can be interesting to watch.  I know that RPS has it's faults, but there are other feds that just leave you scratching your head.

In my eyes, the lifters want to come in, warm up, lift, collect the award, leave.  I do my best to make that happen as fast and safely as possible. Spotters/Loaders are absolutely key to make that happen.

The smell of weed was very strong at this past meet, I know of a few lifters that were smoking, not sure about any judges though.

I will do some research on future meets and see how they are set up, ie...2days...or different shifts.  and of course if any of you guys come down for a meet I'll make sure to be in it also...even if it's a 14 hour day......hopefully the RPS veterans day meet isn't a 14 hour day bc PSL is a smaller town and there won't be shit open late at night

How in the fuck can a person even lift casually, let alone compete, if they're stoned???

I don't get it.   :S :S :S

yeah, I don't know.  I wasn't sure exactly which guys it was, could just smell it very strongly, so I'm not sure if they had any decent lifts or not.
