The AVENTURES of Ramrod's Son..aka Logan
« on: May 26, 2016, 11:04:46 PM »
Well my son has started to hit the a gym here and there. I only take him when he wants to go. I don't force him or Make him go. I feel if I force him at this age he may not like it and see it more has a punishment. If it's his choice it puts in the effort better. BUT when we are at the GYM. We are there to TRAIN. We don't play around. He is good for about 30min before he is burnt out.

Stats..9yr, 4th Grade.. 60lbs roughly
He plays Soccer all year, Basketball and Baseball.

What we have worked on so far.

Squats - Has an issue with Bar placement on back.
Deadlifts - Getting pretty good at these
Bench - Improving fast and getting better contol
Curls - Curls for the Girls
Box Jumps - Mastered
Standing Long Jumps - Mastered
Pull ups -a struggle, but getting there
ABs - Mastered

I got him his own Barbell. Quickly found on the 45lb BB is to much to start with on Bench and Squats.

I started him with a OSO Mini Bar that weighs 5lbs and has a 22mm grip. Has marker rings and takes normal 2in plates. This was a big help on Bench and Squats.

On Deadlifts we have a 6ft bar that weighs 30lbs. Started with it and are now using a Texas DL Bar. He has got the DL down pretty good. Has a slight lean forward I'm working on with him.

And this is from Today... I had a Crap Deadlift day, So worked on Accessories and Helped my Boy more.

Worked with Logan a little today.. Squats and Deadlifts

The APA Mo State Record for 9yr under 86lbs is an 85lb pull..

Here is Logan pulling 90lbs, I pulled this for 3 Singles. This is where is Form started breaking down. But he is trying to stay tight and I'm proud of him.

His first Meet looks like it will be in Aug.

This is great.

I have a 15 year consistently lifting. He's considered "muscular" by his peers because he has a few prominent forearm veins ::)

I'm bringing him up to Hercules in a couple weeks because I can not get him to deadlift correctly. He loves to DL but he looks like an octopus trying to screw a beach ball, all gangly and off. Hopefully my fellow sanctuarians can get him on the right track.

This is awesome!  I think you're very wise not forcing him.  Positive reinforcement and enjoying his own success will keep him coming back.

Oh, and tell him not to feel bad - I have trouble with bar placement on squats too!
Last meet lifts:  245/125/285

Nice, nothing like passing on the knowledge to your kids and seeing them work hard!

I started taking my son to gym with me about 10 months ago.  We go three days a week, and I do a fullbody workout with him.   It's be awesome to see the progress he has made in that time, and it's a great time to bond with him and pass on what I've learned about lifting and fitness.

My son just turned 13 in March and he's a little over 6' and around 190lbs.  We don't build them small :)
