The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
« on: December 28, 2015, 11:34:16 AM »
Overall had a great meet Saturday at EPF December to Remember.  I did a full meet, and came in heavier than I have ever competed at 195.

The Good.  440 squat, 282.5 bench, 500 deadlift for a 1,222.5 total.  I hit a two milestones, got two PR's, and "made" every lift with ease.  The milestones where breaking the 1,200 total with a 1,222.5, and a 500 deadlift.  The PR's where the 500 deadlift, and a 440 squat.  Both of which felt shockingly easy.

The Bad.  I was nervous as hell about my squats.  I got 420 last spring at a meet, 425 with ease in training this fall, but almost dumped 410 two weeks before the meet.  The 410 felt heavy, I mean real heavy.  It got in my head big time.  I must have been having a bad day because a 440 deadlift also felt heavy that day.  I went into this meet truly not knowing where the hell my squat and deadlift where.

The Ugly.  I couldn't keep my butt down on the bench.  I should have easily gone over 300 for the first time in a meet.  My 282.5 (metric plates) opener flew up.  I was pretty surprised when he said no lift.  I finally felt like I got my butt coming up dialed in.  My last meet my butt didn't come up once, and I video my training and have not seen it come up.  The bench was pretty slippery, so I chalked my back for the second try and stayed at 282.5, it flew up and I got all green lights.  Made a jump to 300, it flew up, and red lights for my butt.  I was pretty surprised, but this is why we have judges and meets.  I need to get back to work on my technique.  I didn't video anything from this meet as I went alone, and didn't bother anyone, so I'm assuming I just didn't stay tight, or was sliding on the bench.  Either way it's back to the drawing board.

I feel really good about this meet.  I may have been overconfident on the bench, and it might sound odd, but I can't help thinking I should have gone heavier on the bench so I would have taken it more seriously.  I had no fear of making any of my bench attempts and that might just not work for me.  I felt like I had so much more in the tank on all three events, and still can't believe how easily I handled the 440, and 500.  I guess the hard work is paying off.  The bench thing might be good too as it will keep me hungry.

It's never occurred to me to get the lifting cards as a souvenir.

My wife hates my "participation" trophies.  This one was actually for the open, but there just where no real strong 198's.

Keeping the score card was the meet directors idea.  I never thought of getting one either.

Congrats and great lifts....

If your still having butt issues..:) Just widen your Feet out a little. This will reduce the amount the butt can lift up. It has worked for me in the past and others I have helped. Learn it from a seasoned vet.
