Yuri's weightlifting log
« on: October 12, 2015, 04:23:25 PM »
Background:

Was active with weightlifting from my teens to mid 20's, got burned out and stopped lifting for about 10 years, 23-33.  Got back to the basic way I was lifting about 4 years ago and never looked back.  Also got my health back in line, was borderline hypertension and high blood pressure and cardiologist has placed me on a low sodium diet for the past year, 2400mg or less, recent blood work as came back as everything has improved 100%, healthier than his 20 year old patients.

Current program:
5 days a week, 'Bulgarian method".  Basically how we used to train as a youth, basic lifts, done every day with around 80-85% 1RM.

Lifts:
Bottom up front squat
Clean and Jerk

Pretty much as basic of a full body you can get as you have a legs, push and pull all in 2 lifts.

Sets/reps:
15x1, usually resting about 5-30 secs, just enough time to reset for the next rep.  Considering going to every minute on the minute next week.

Progression:
5 lbs per week.

Due to the fact that you are doing this every day, no need to hammer aggressive progression as you're going to be getting in 75 reps a week, adding weight daily will just hamper your recovery time, IMO.

Today's session 12/10/2015

Bottom up front squats
150*15*1

Clean and jerk
120*15*1

Thanks.  I prefer to stay around the 77kg class, not that I compete anymore, I have done that in probably over 20+ years.  But I just feel that's the perfect weight for me to be around.

Yeah, that's done every day, so 75 reps a week at a very high intensity

haha, yeah most aren't used to it. It's kinda like the Bulgarian method, but without making out 3 times a day :)

I'll be interested to follow along.  I've seen full body routines before, but not with repetitive heavy singles like this.

When you stop being able to meet the 5lb a week increases, do you reset and start over again?

You can.  The way it was taught to me was one of 2 ways.

1. Either go with a 2 week or month progression, where you add weight every 2 weeks or once a month.
2. reduce volume with the added weight, trying to add a rep each week.

so for example.

week 1 100x10x1
week 2 100x11x1
week 3 100x12x1
week 4 100x13x1, etc... Once you hit 15x1 add weight

The Bulgarian Method you are using, is it the version Greg Nuckols and Omar Isuf wrote?
