Pre Meet Training - Final Week - Deload ?!
« on: July 21, 2015, 11:04:17 PM »
Is it generally accepted to go into the gym, hit your openers and leave for the week leading up to your meet?

Or do you guys deload completely... ??

I know there are a ton of programs out there etc.. that including peaking and all that.. but, say for a guy who is just training for his first meet (->me<-) and, did not go about worrying about peaking or any specific programming...

Should I plan to go in and do a typical deload -- for me that is basically a solid warm up.. 50-60% loads with about normal sets/reps.....??

Thoughts on what has worked for you prior.. thanks!

I usually do nothing the week before the meet.

Maybe the weekend before I might work up to openers on one or two lifts.

You're not going to gain any strength in that last week; you're better off resting and eating.

Some people even say two weeks prior, but for me I couldn't take two weeks off then hit PRs at a meet.

I'm with Flex.

I'll work up to openers for my last exercises two weeks out.  I'll take the 7 days prior to the Meet to rest and recover.  If anything, I'll do some light treadmill at the gym.  Just to keep my head focused.

I'm usually doing a water cut at that time, so the focus helps get me through it.

Like Flex said, you're not going to get stronger in that week.  It's better to let your body fully rest and recover for the Meet.

32 days!

Yea, I am fully aware that I am not going to get stronger that last week...

But you guys sort of answered my question, in that it is typical to really do a full deload that final week. Not sure I could do 2 weeks of de-loading either...

Kewl.. thanks.

Off to bench for a bit :) trying to bring something to the meet here.. :)
