Old Man - Keepin' it going
« on: April 23, 2012, 05:43:09 PM »
Decided to do a journal here in hopes you guys can keep me going.  Competed last year, did ok
but have kind of lost my way. Been on a cut for over 2 years and sort of tired of it.  Just want to
experiment and try to add some strength and a few more pounds of mass. I'm 64 and mother nature
is getting tougher and tougher on me. Enough BS. I train mwf in the AM at home(I'm retired).

Monday bwt 164.2

Squats
barx8
100x8
120x8
150x6
170x5,5
120x8

Pullups - neutral grip
Bwtx888

BB inclines
115x8
125x8,8

Military Press
95x8
100x7,7

Skullcrusher
90x888
finish each set with 4 cls grp presses

Rope pressdown  (90degree with hand spread ala ntrlftr-Carl)
40x10,9,8

Trying for perfect form on each set (emphasis on trying)

Cals been running @1900-2100 - not fussy right now.

I'm open to criticism and suggestion - it's how I learn. Plus, I'm partial to dark beer.

Just thinking out loud.

Fri bwt 163.8

Been having some shoulder pain from benches so I'm trying something a little different for me.
Set the safeties on the cage @1" above my chest and moved my grip in 2" per side and came
to a slow dead stop at the safeties then press out. Also tried to keep arms at 45 degrees from my body. Made for some really hard reps but felt good. I'll know more tomorrow. Now if I can just get my right knee to cooperate on squat day Monday.

Bench
barx8
115x6
165x6
175x5
185x3,3
165x5

Db incl
35x8x3

Military press
barx8
95x8
105x7,7

Laterals
20x8x3

Close grip bench
115x8
135x7,7

Rope downs
45x8,8,9

Diet at maintenance 1850-2000  p-150 c-125 f-@90/100

Other than some nagging knee and shoulder pain, not a bad week.

Shoulder pain sucks  >:(

I dropped all barbell work from chest day about 6 weeks ago because of it. I only use dumbbell's now and it seems to be helping.

Yeah, might be in my future too. I'm hoping limiting my ROM a little might help. I dunno yet.
I see you had a big leg day today. My knee started to hurt just reading it. Keep killin' it man.

Sometimes the 1" less ROM makes all the difference in the world.

Unfortunately my gym doesn't have a power cage.

Sorry about the shoulder issues; we're in the same boat.  But good work, man.

Thanx man, it's the day after and shoulder feels ok so far. Minor doms in my pecs make me think the reduced ROM is nearly as effective as full ROM, we'll see.  Only pain today is between the ears - a trip to the Comedy Club last nite lol.

Hope your shoulder holds up, I know you have longstanding issues.
