Then I went on youtube and saw a lot of vides of guys much smaller than me throwing around 225 and felt sad

LOL.  It happens.

I've never been able to do them standing.  Kills my lower back.

What has worked the best for me, is a combination of two exercises.  Zydrunas Presses, followed by Push Press.  The Z Presses, help isolate the shoulder and core.  Forcing me to really put my shoulders into action at a lighter weight than normally I would in a Standing press.

Had to look up the Zydrunas Presses, and dang I'll have to try those.  I'm a big fan of pin presses for bench and Andersons for squats, and those look remarkably like the comparable exercise for OHP.  Thanks DA!

Something about my body mechanics has me hating this lift. If I do it in front of the face, my back is too arched. Behind the neck... well, my shoulders are healthy, but I don't push them in ways I think could make them worse.

The only way I can OHP is DBs or on an iso machine.

For bodybuilding this is fine.

Us powerlifters feel like wankers...

I do standing OHP and.....in the beginning I didn't mind them, now I just flat out hate that bastard exercise with all my life! I still do them though, but as mentioned the margin between doing them for reps vs not doing it at all is small, very small! Hence why it has taken me so damn long to move from 135 to 160. I still have another 15 lbs to get back to where I was......this will take awhile.
