I chose the tart and it was great.  I put the recipe in the recipe thread.

Nervous about this press - hope I don't drop it on my head!

Great workout! When you have those "fail" sets, how do you dump the bar?  Just a curiousity question.  Mostly because I hate going to failure on squats.  :o

And roast beast sounds awesome!!

Fortunately for me, I have Flex standing behind me spotting me.  When I fail, it's because I can't get back up again, so he'll place his hands under my arms and lift to help me stand back up.

But I think I did actually drop the bar once on the safeties of the rack and fell down.  Scared the life out of me!

Good for him!

The fail on squat is more scary to me then bench failure, even though the latter is more dangerous normally.  I've been coaching my sons on squat and how to fail if it ever comes to that by taking a heavy weight and sinking into the hole and staying there...waiting...and then leaning forward to dump the bar (onto the safeties) under some control.  I don't want them scared of going heavy, or of expecting a spotter to help.  But TBT I'd help my wife if she squatted... :D

That "scared the life out of (you)" is a big deal for some people, so they won't go heavy out of fear.  It helps a ton to have someone spotting, or have experienced the safeties to alleviate that fear, or at least give the confidence that there's a safety available.

Good stuff!  Thanks for responding Lisa!

Well thanks for dropping by ToT!  That's awesome you are coaching your sons.  My son started, lasted 2 or 3 weeks then gave up.   :(

September 30, 2015

I am broken.  Pain in my elbow, my lower back and my left knee.  I started with standing overhead presses and my back and knee couldn't take it.  So Flexy suggested I try the Smith machine.  Holy cats!  That's way easier.  Pressed on their for a long while, then did some Atlantis cable rows (the one where your feet are elevated).  I went as high as I could on that - up to 160 lbs.

Standing OHP
45 x 10
55 x 8
60 x 6
65 x 3

Smith Machine Presses:
65 x 10
75 x 10
85 x 8
95 x 1 <-- well that got heavy fast
95 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5

Atlantis Cable Rows:
100 x 10
115 x 10
115 x 10
130 x 8
145 x 8
160 x 6
160 x 6
160 x 6

In the office tomorrow and likely Friday, so Saturday might be my next workout - deads.

Happy Hump Day!

105 x 5
105 x 4
105 x 4
95 x 5

I guess I am just going to have to accept that I'm going to be weak as hell until I finish dieting.  Crap.

Making old-fashioned baked beans in the oven today.  My grandpa's recipe.  They bake slowly for 7 hours and the house always smells wonderful.  It's a good Autumn dish.

Happy Friday, Friends!

How is your elbow, back and knee feeling Lisa??

How long are you planning to diet? I start mine on Monday. I can say... I am not looking forward to it but it is only 6 weeks so I think I can suffer for that long ;)

Great work in here lately.  That OHP session a couple days ago is impressive.  Smith machine or not, all those sets of 95 x 5 is pretty darn good.
PRs:
OHP 140 - 8/27/15
BP 245 - 4/7/17
DL 345 - 8/26/15
Squat - ugh
Leg Press 670x2 - 12/10/15

You'll make it!  I've got a long way to go.  I am aiming to be done in February.  I'll enjoy Thanksgiving (ours is next week!), Christmas, and my birthday celebrations.  And, I still drink some beer on the weekends (none during the week).  I am just reducing my calories (by reducing my portions).  I save most of my cals for dinner.  I could probably cut very seriously and be done in January, but I'd be miserable.  Hell hath no fury like a hungry Lisa.

Knee is better, thanks.  Lower back is a bit grouchy, and my elbow comes and goes.  I believe though, that my elbow is a muscle issue as opposed to a joint issue.  I was worried it might be joint, because I do have arthritis.  So I am a bit relieved.

Oh thanks!  They are so hard!
