And as an added bonus,  you may get the weirdest case of DOMS in your lower back and glute area, making mere sitting torture.  It's an interesting way to target the posterior chain.

Actually, the only DOMs I've had have been glutes and hamstrings from this.  Low back not a bit.  Which is good, because I despise low back DOMs.  :panic:

I can't even get out of bed at that time let alone pick up a weight.

Big wow on those calf raises. 305lb barbell on your legs? Do you put anything between your legs and the bar?

Here's the doohicky thingamajig I made for seated calf raises.

On the Standing Calf or Donkey Calf (depending on how I stand) I use this thing:

Note, there's only 105 lbs on that pic, which I took almost a year ago.

The 2x4 platform gives me a full stretch.  But I've put some grip tape on the top so my feet don't slide off with the heavier weights.

Nice setups. How do you do the BB calf raises? Is it setup in a rack so you can just slide under the bar?

I sit on the bench there in the photo, with the barbell loaded on my rack, at the just the right height.  The 2x4 platform is in front of me (without the stack of weights in the picture.)  I get my knees under the bar, feet on the wood, lift off with the calves, and butt-wiggle forward a couple inches (2-3 inches).  That gives me the clearance for full ROM up and down.  When it gets to failure, I just have to lean back a tad and pull with my arms to re-rack it.  If not, I can always push it off forward to dump it.  Haven't had to do that though.  Have to hang on to the bar pretty tightly to compensate for any imbalances/see-sawing.  If you need, I can try to take a video next week.  Just let me know.

That pad is plywood, with two 2x4's making the slot for the bar.  The plywood side is padded with some thick, strong foam, and the whole thing is tightly upholstered with fake leather (vinyl?).

Hope that helps.  If you have more questions, ask away!  Calves are tough to train at home and this has been quite a nice addition to my gym.

I totally recognize that my calves are still itsy bitsy.  So that's why I keep bombing them as hard as I can.  I wish I had a leg press though, because I'd like to try ID's (I think it was ID) suggestions on negatives.

My calves will never be beautiful like yours though....
