Standard Bar.
« on: December 07, 2013, 08:40:50 PM »
As I use standard size plates I was in the market for a decent bar.In July I started looking and there were two options,an Ivanko b86 1200lb rated 7ft,or a Super Strength standard from Australian Barbell Company. They just happen to be the importer for Ivanko,so I rang them and asked for a quote, and I was told they had never brought one into the country,it would be a special order and would cost around $700 and could be up to 6mths before it would arrive. The salesman then told me they would do me one of thier bars,500kg rated in chrome for $245 delivered.

Nope,I want Black Nitride. "We can do that, same price and will take about 2 weeks"

So, on the 19th July this showed up.

7ft,500kg rated Black Nitride,28mm,16kg with collars, standard bar.(They kept Number One for their showroom)

I like the black nitride.  My York Oly bar has that as well.

Tried to find a pic of mine and google brought back the pic of Pete's bar.  LMFAO.

I'm surprised they make one standard. My gym bought 2 Oly ones and they were wonderful for Oly lifting as they have ball bearings or something that allow the bar to spin without the weights spinning.

I searched for a while and I could only find two companies in the world that make a quality, nitride coated standard.Australian Barbell supply a company here,Iron Edge, but to find anything non-olympic I had to go straight to the manufacturer. The difference between this and the cheap Chinese bar I have is HUGE.First thing I noticed was the knurl, because there actually IS knurling.

It is a major psychological difference using a quality bar as well.

I made this as I was asked how the plates fit.

Plates.

dat der Aussie accent.

Love the vid. Always good to hear the voice behind the posts.

Mind blown over a decent standard bar.  Never thought they were anything more than a beginner set, but 500kg is plenty of weight to be rated at. Kinda curious as far as bar bending,  my weak-ass lifts never felt like any sag of the bar until I got above a 315 dead and I felt a little sag on the lift.

I've had 304 on for deadlift and didn't notice any sag at all.The guy that sold it to me said that it is the same stock as the oly bars, just without the grooves on the ends to fit the sleeves.Aust.Barbell guarantee their bars for life, except if dropped on safeties as pretty much all bar makers do.One thing he did say is that when loaded heavy (?) they will spring back to shape. Not like the crappy one I have that bowed at 240lb and stayed that way.
