Doesn't really count... but...
« on: April 01, 2012, 04:17:49 PM »
I cut up several fallen trees on an empty lot of ours and hauled off the trunks. They were cut in 3' or so sections of 2 or so feet in diameter probably weighing 2-300 pounds apiece (wish I had had a scale, they were awkward so maybe not as heavy?). They all had to go from ground level across some distance and then into the bed of my truck, which is a lifted dodge 2500. I belted up and after several runs got them all in the truck and to the landfill. Anyway, it was a lot of fun putting some functional strength to work. It took about two hours and I was exhausted by the end.

It makes me wish I could still get my arms over my head and try some real strongman events.

So, this is a shitty first STRONGMAN post in the STRONGMAN section but it's the only STRONGMAN experience I have to relate, except for maybe picking my tubby 2 year old up twenty times a day.

Sorry, the strongman section was looking too empty. As much as I was joking around I actually did enjoy the work. I always thought strongman stuff would be fun and I sorta felt like one with my lifting belt on, bear-hugging these big stumps and moving them around.

This is a one acre lot that was all but destroyed by storms and a tornado last fall and this spring. It is literally entirely covered with fallen trees and debris. We already have tons of firewood, both here and at the farm, our house has old coal burning fireplaces, and with two little ones we don't do any camping or campfires anyway.

Hey, if my tearing down beaver dams counts, so does hauling trees!

Powerlifting is bench, dead, and squat.

Strongman is picking up, carrying, or dragging heavy objects

Scottish games is throwing

Highlander is a combination of strongman and Scottish games

Thanks. There used to be a local Chicago TV newsguy who competed in the Highland Games. Way before it was cool.
