New Gym, New Toys...
« on: September 24, 2013, 02:16:17 PM »
So, there's a new Addition to the gym that I go to.  One of the trainers has been a Crossift enthusiast for a while, and she's decided that she didn't particularly like the way they ran it.  So, she's starting her own.  Synergy Functional Fitness.  As I heard the scuttle butt around the gym, one day she stopped me in the middle of a workout and said she'd like to talk to me sometime. Aww... Shucks, Strong, cute blonde liking that I lift heavy. Got me all Bashful and Shit.

Nope, didn't want me, just wants my powerlifters.

She wants to pick my brain about what it would take to recruit powerlifters to her gym.  One word, "Chalk".  Fast forward a few months, gear starts showing up, I start drooling. Chains, GHR, Power Racks, and... A Deadlift platform, with a Deadlift Jack.  And she had a Massive, Fuck-off, sized chalk bowl.  I heard Christmas and Wedding bells.

Turns out, her dad and I have lifted together and he's been giving me Squat and DL tips for the past 4 years.  She's putting all this powerlifting stuff together for her Dad, with a mind to recruit PL'ers as well.

I'm not arguing, though, here's a look at the platform.

Sweet!!! I'd love access to a gym like that...I really like that squat bar too, that would save some hell on my shoulders.

I'm curious about the safety bar as well, and also would kill to have a deadlift jack at the gym.
This is all too reasonable. It will end in tears.

Current PR's
Deadlift 525
Squat 455
Bench 335
OHP 235

Lifts the bar off the ground so it's easier to add/remove the plates.

Deadlift jack

Ah...got you. We have some 25kg plates that are just a touch bigger in diameter than the 20kgs, so I always load those first so I can slot the 20s on afterwards. I can see the need for a jack otherwise.

There are mini jacks available that fit in a gym bag

Just an example and there are other companies that make them.

I'm thinking of making the handle removable, simple clevis pin setup to keep it in place. Would be very easy to carry in a gym bag. Will post pics when complete, and yes if it works out I will make one for you.

Just a suggestion,a lot of guys that make their own put some sort of rubber in the lifting hook to protect the barbell.

More toys....

I'm liking this gym so much more than the last one.  Now, I just need to convince a few more people to train with me....
