Dave Hoff 1210 pound squat 2013 IPA Westside Open

I heard a bit about this over the weekend, so went looking and found the video.  Apparently, this is a new World Record.

Am I wrong in thinking that it's the same as saying you set a 100m Sprint Record, when in reality you only ran 85m.

That was not even close.

Those Inzer squats suits are nuts.  Did you see the guy at our meet trying to get his off at the end?  3 guys helping him and they couldn't pull it off him.

They had one over where the t-shirts were, look liked solid thick canvas and silicone gel.

That was just stupid.   Passing lifts like that diminishes the sport as a whole.    Depth was not even close.  1/4 squat maybe.

I did see those guys trying to get him out of it. It's astonishing how tight those suits are.  If I recall, his was a multiply suit.  I've tried out a squat suit a few times, and still question their application.  I train with a guy that lifts geared. He's in the 275 class, and totals out low 1500's.  If he doesn't bomb out.  He can't hit depth with his suit until he's at 550lbs.  He's bombed out of 3 meets because he couldn't hit depth on his opener of 500lbs. The times I used a suit, I couldn't hit depth, solely because the suit was tight, and I couldn't get the technique and form proper.  After three different days trying it, I decided it wasn't for me. I'd have to relearn how to squat.

The suits are a marvel of engineering, but I'm still on the fence as to how much they bring to the sport.  I've also seen guys put on briefs under their squat suit to further assist in their lift.

As for Dave Hoff, the video evidence is pretty damn clear. At some point, he should step up and state that his lift should be discredited.  What's even worse, is that this guy and lifts like this will be happening at the Arnold.

Suits are bullshit. What if I develop a mechanical suit like Ironman's and then design a weight lifting class around it? I'm fine with belts, knee wraps, hell even straps but suits are just fucking asinine.

Impressed that he can hold and move that much weight at all.

Unimpressed with his 2" squat, legs akimbo, in a suit.
This is all too reasonable. It will end in tears.

This is a bit of a kick in nuts too.  One of the judges from the RPS Meet that Kelly, Bando, Flex and I just did, was a lady named Rheta West.

She participated in the IPA Westside invitational.

Here's her record squat.

Here's a few vid's on the IPA blog.
http://ipapower.blogspot.com/2012/12/2013-meet-results.html

Something that I found very interesting, is that she followed the cues being given to know when her lift was good.  It takes a few replays, but the very last second of the clip, when she steps out from under the bar, she shakes her head knowing it was a high squat.

I'm just a regular guy who's not familiar with the rules and such of power lifting, but that didn't look like a squat. Just saying... ::)
Not worthy, but working on getting there.

lulz, was just reading this:

http://www.monstersquat.com/controversy-has-yet-again-hit-the-sport-of-powerlifting/

Not a PL'er myself but the guy makes some very good points, and from attending just 2 tourneys, I see a lot of truth in the statements.

Are BB.com mods moonlighting as PL judges? :o ;D
