romanian dl question
« on: December 17, 2014, 06:42:12 PM »
Just wondering what everyone does for rdl's. I'm currently using a lighter weight and 10 rep range. I really focus on form and contraction.  For those who do this move do you go heavy and really push the envelope or slightly lighter? Any benefits or drawbacks to either? I'd like to hear everyone's opinion.

Definitely not a heavy lift for me.  I stay in the 8 rep range.  I do them with a slow eccentric and really try to fire my hips into the bar on the concentric.

Can't argue with this at all. I like the lift but it aggravates my tendonitis, so they are rare for me.

Never done RDLs myself.

I used to do SLDL all the time, but once I started doing conventional DLs I stopped.

Similar to FLEX I generally dont do RDL's when I am pushing on deads hard.   That said, I LOVE them!  I would do them on leg day after squatting.

As far as weight goes, I stay relatively light. (which is 405 range for me....remember weight is relative).   I will go working sets as heavy as 495, but that really is more for my ego if I am honest.   Sometimes it feels good and raises my confidence in my back to do them like that.

ID, based on your video and description that's why I started to do RDL. Figured it would help with my hamstring imbalance and it working so far.

Thanks guys. I too do them after squats. I'm giving box squats a try and for the first time I'm feeling my hamstrings involved in the lift. They are definitly sore after leg day now.  DoMS lasts 3-4 days now. I have to be careful with legs now as in the spring I got a bad hit of rhabdo. A week in the hospital and a long layoff means a pretty good hit to progress. getting there though.
