Title: Did something different today....
Post by: FLEX on July 13, 2019, 07:30:36 PM
Slept in yesterday and missed my upper back session, so today before doing bench a did 8 sets of pulldowns.  Stack run from 150 to 225.

Had a good bench session afterwards.  Not super stellar, but a bit better than I've been doing lately.  Got a clean single at 315 with no spotter.

Thoughts on this?

ID actually runs a similar thing, less sets though & then some accessories. Great for hypertophy but just ruins my elbows doing push/pull in the same sesh.

Lats play a huge part in Benching.  Gene said it was one of his main-stay exercises in building his Bench.

I've been workign to incorporate more lats on Bench Day.

I did push/pull for a long time.  (probably should look at going back there).  Worked very well.

Did 'upper' twice per week.   First workout was chest and back focused (lifing heavy basic movement for both) and arms and shoulders got hit indirectly

2nd workouts upper was shoulder and arm focused, but chest and back would get some carry over and light work.

Now you got me thinking....maybe I will go back to something like this?....

I recently ran a bunch of cycles of a wendler 531 where I was supersetting bench with pullups and my bench felt great. I can see there being benefits for both as long as one exercise isn't to increadably taxing.

Pretty sure it's westside that preaches face pulls prior to bench.  Activate the mid back/ lower traps.  Antagonist to the pecs.

I tired that for a while years ago and didn't notice any difference.
