Title: RPS Central Florida Throwdown May 26
Post by: Get-n-fit on April 06, 2018, 03:32:11 PM
Well, it's now official, registration paid and I'm in!!  I'll be competing with a team, hopefully we'll have 10 guys on the team to represent our Gym, Iron Clad.  My elbows are on the right track to heal, next week should be better.  Hoping to get my squat back over 600 very quickly, first meet I broke 1600, hoping at least 1650 this meet, would like over 1700. Biggest thing will be to keep my elbows healthy and get my bench and squat back on track.

Also, at my first meet I competed in the 275 class....this one I'll be in 220...possibly 198.  We shall see.

Welp...I just realized yesterday how time flies and the meet is around the corner,  was hoping to deload next week, but it's my last week that I'll be able to lift heavy and the following week will be some light stuff for a couple days then the meet!!!  My bench isn't quite were I want it, was hoping to be hitting 405 regularly by now. As it is, I'll probably hit the same bench I did as my first meet...maxing around 415.  I wish squats were higher now, should be able to hit 615 today, wanted to be around 640 at this time, only good thing is I'm consistently pulling 605 on deads, going to another gym tomorrow to pull on a texas dl bar and see what I can do.  My weight is sitting at 223-226, so I'll be competing at 220.  All things considering if I can hit my same bench and close to my same squat as I did in the 275 class I'll be happy,  My dead will be well over 50lbs more than I pulled in the heavy class.  Low bar really phucked up my meet prep this time around with the damage it did to my left arm and nerve, took several week's to heal and slowed down my progress heavily.  I'll be really focused on my weight the next 2 weeks and making sure not to add more weight.  I'm holding roughly 10 lbs of water so that'll be easy to shed, I'll come down to about 219...just enough to make weight.
Current estimated openers

S-605
B-385
DL-605

Some pretty beastly openers Brad especially considering the considerably lower weight class. I'm sure you'll kill it on the platform. Good luck.

Just looked up the State records for my age/weight division...I'm going to destroy all 4 records with my openers! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Can't believe this guy has held the records since 10/2015...sucks for him

Flat bench-last heavy day for Prep...only working to openers next week.  Bench, I'll probably drop my opener to 365, no need to go too heavy with attempt 1.

Flat BB
barx10
135x2x10
225x2x5
315x3
365x1
385x1
395x1
405x1!! BOOOM!!!  It wasn't pretty, but I got it and will do it again on meet day.  Felt great to hit this number considering last time I did I was 40lbs heavier.
315x12

Rev pec dec
100x10
150x10
190x10

Deadz
no straps until 615
DOH
135x2x5
225x2x5
315x2x3
405x3
Mixed grip-haven't pulled mixed in quite a while so starting light to make sure hand placement is OK and I'm pulling evenly
405x1
495x1
545x1
585x1

Versa grips on
10lb PR jump
615x1...once I broke the floor the weight flew up, I think I'll hold this for attempt 2 and possibly open with 585
585..quick single.

Done...contemplated for another PR, but may as well end my DL peak with a good PR rather than a fail...helps stroke the ego going into the meet.

not sure what I'll do tomorrow,  my gym is replacing every single piece of equipment tomorrow so I my just help with that.
Thursday-squats and Friday I'm going to a gym near my house and pulling with an Okie bar.  The bar I've been using (rogue dl bar) has decent whip, better than the stock stiff bars, but the okie will be closer to the RPS bar, just going to feel it out.

Very happy with how I feel and how everything is coming together.  Going to play with am okie bar tomorrow at a different gym, mon and tues will be light easy days so I don't feel like a useless schmuck then resting the body until the meet.  My daughter also graduates highschool Thursday before the meet so that's exciting also!

5 days to meet and counting.  Weight is down to 221, going to hit openers today and tomorrow to make sure strength is holding....shouldn't be a reason it's not.  Trying to bench and DL today and squat tomorrow. Then rest the remainder of the week, want to get weight town to about 218 just incase there's any variance in the scales to give me a little wiggle room.

Trying not to injure myself before the meet, had a close call this weekend.  The ex called me bc her timing belt snapped and she needed a tow and she doesn't have road side assistance on her insurance and I have a car dolly.  I had no help so I did everything on my own. Pushed her car onto the dolly after several attempts, but everything went ok. The tricky part was get if off the dolly. It has wheel stops behind the front wheels and when you're pushing it on, if you push the car fast enough you the momentum will carry the car over the stops, but there is no momentum getting it back down.  After several attempts of pushing it down, I ended up putting my body into it, lifted the front end of the car (thankfully it's a small car) and got it over the stops, of course since I was leaning so hard into the car once it moved I fell onto the dolly, banged up my leg pretty good, but I got lucky and didn't injure myself seriously.  And then on the way home I get pulled over a block from my house by an officer....some new kid.  He says I have to have a license plate on the dolly, but I told him, not in the state of florida and I showed him the statue stating so, but he argued since a car was not on it it's considered a trailer...I seriously bert stared this fucker   I was like....whatever.  He went back to his car for about 15 mintues, came back and said he's not giving me a ticket and told me to register it.  I bet he learned I was right and didn't want to admit it.....I don't give a fuck bc I'm selling the dolly, I'm sick of helping people with their broke down cars all the dam time.

Yeah, I know, trying to be a nice guy.  But the kids have a lot of end of the year stuff, and my daughter is graduating so she needs to get the car fixed to take them around to everything.

Bench /dl today

fairly quick work up to openers only
Flat BB
135x2x5
225x5
315x1
365x1...easy and done

Deadlift
135x2x5
225x3
315x1
405x1
495x1
585x1...done

that's it,  everything moved easy and weights down to 221, still a few more pounds to go but I feel like it shouldn't be a problem.  Doing an easy water cut, want to get below 218 just incase my home scale isn't as accurate as I'd like it to be, I really hope it's not far off though, I'll be pissed if I don't make weight and I'm at the very bottom of the 242 class.
