Title: 85YO and setting records
Post by: LisaSkinnoble on July 21, 2015, 09:16:49 PM
Joe Stockinger just set three world records for power lifting at a June competition in Calgary, deadlifting 200 kilograms, bench pressing 85 and squatting 122.5.

It wasn't the challenge one would think, according to Stockinger, who peered into the record books and found them wanting.

"I'm using those weights they have as the world records as my training weights," he said, remembering his reaction.

The octogenarian has been lifting weights since his 20s, starting with Olympic lifting and moving to power lifting as he grew older.

He says regular training is key as well as avoiding stress and getting lots of sleep and seems almost unaware of the fact many people his age struggle with basic movements, let alone weightlifting.

It's not all easy though. Stockinger admits he does get "a little bit of stiffness here and there."
