Title: American Ninja Warrior
Post by: cmoore on April 22, 2015, 07:41:21 PM
Got cleared for "social media" by American Ninja Warrior.

I'm competing in the (once secret) Military Episode in June (in California).

I'm going to kick arse and try to win the 1 million dollar prize money for Shriners Hospital.

I'm also raising money for them (not for me) so no matter how I do, Shriners still wins.

Please share, tweet, text this video to help get the word out.

Yep. It'll be interesting to see how she does.

I think she's on for Orlando (that's the next one up). Pittsburgh (end of May) and San Pedro (June, but .mil only) are the only other cities left afaik.

Well, that's cool.  Did you build it, or are you getting to train at some different facilities?

Donations not withstanding*, my community has rallied behind me. That ladder is in one of the local gyms (they comped me a membership so I could train there as needed). The local gymnastics place has also pledged time on their equipment as well (major deal as typically NO ONE OVER 22 can train there).

*IS and BB.com have donated the most )

Done deal. :)

You ROCK! Thank you for your donation and support.

Fundraiser is at $3460.00

This is my community too and you guys have been AWESOME! Thank you.

Things are starting to feel serious. Shriners Hospitals called to set up a conference call (for Friday) with their marketing VP (and legal dept -ugh). Formal corporate meetings--sigh. Might be more painful than my training and dietary restrictions. That being said, they seem genuinely excited and were very nice on the phone. maybe they can help spike the donations to the fundraiser.  8)

Thanks! Feels weird since I haven't done anything yet. I'll hang myself out there for the kids though.

If you were me, what's the go to exercise to do during filming? Flags, ladders, muscle ups, weighted pull ups, ....? Idk what they'll want footage wise. Just hoping to make a solid impression to viewers so they'll consider donating

To me the human flags are wild. I'd go with that.

Every jackass out there probably thinks they can do pullups but in reality we all know most people couldn't do a single one if their life depended on it.

Thanks guys.

He shot footage of:

Pull ups (lateral  bar/grip air transfers)
Muscle Ups to toe touch
Flags (felt awkward)
Flag pull ups (sloppy today)
Salmon Ladders with Muscle up at the top
Weighted Pull ups BW+107 (curl bar w/ 45s held in my knees)
Dragon Flag Skull crushers w/ Oly bar (135)

Dunno what they'll use (hopefully not the flags, ugh dunno what was wrong with me/them today)

They're coming back in a bit to film me in clinic today too.

Will post up how it goes and any news links when/if it airs.

I don't think they are giving specifics about that, or if ANW is they aren't letting the contestants talk about it.  Dana Linn Bailey ran ANW yesterday down here in Orlando at Universal Studios, she posted some vids leading up to her run, but no real information was given, mainly just her talking about how nervous she was and that there were some never before seen obstacles. She was saying a lot of people were asking about air date, but she had no idea other than ANW's new season starts up May 25th, but still had no idea when Orlando would be shown.

Shout Outs. Heh. I'm just hoping no F-bombs slip out on camera.

Fly out  2 weeks from tomorrow. SH#$ starting to feel real. I'm not nervous so much as tired of waiting.

I think I'm ready but you never know what you're gonna get course wise.

At this point, I'm focusing on continuing to push grip strength, bounding&jumps, trampoline, and balance skills. Will still work all the standard stuff but I won't dwell on them.

Just dropping in to wish you the very best!   It is really an incredible thing you set out to do.  Very cool....on many levels.

Sneak some cool behind the scenes vids... and post them up.  Get your head right and just set out to do your best that day.   The only one putting pressure on you is probably yourself.   Just relax and enjoy it.   I am sure many many are proud of you regardless of how far you go.   You have nothing to lose.....you have already won!

So I finally broke down and opened a Facebook account  :o

My first post was linking to your page  ;D  It may not be polite to hit up people for donations with my first post, but all four people who are currently on my friends list will probably be able to cope.  Hopefully they are all generous.   ;)

Flying out in 3 days.

Did a little flying today. Shoulder (which I had been worried about a little, always hurts a bit when I cut down tight) felt really good.

Survived yesterday's media day of interviews, photos, b film, etc. Hopefully I didn't embarrass myself. IDK.

Today's the day I compete in AmericanNinjawarrior so I won't be online much afterwards (#gagorder). Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement.

To those who have voiced their determination to "figure out how I did" I would ask that you instead redirect your efforts to helping me fundraise. That's the important part (the kids).

This is only the first stage,  he'd have to beat Mt midoriama, sp?, to win the $1mil and to date no one has ever beat that.   Cmoore would have to complete the next 2 stages to even attempt it,  not that he couldn't,  but that part won't be starting for a few months.

Basically she just had to hold on to the log, lol.   Not to play it down, bc that thing was throwing some serious centrifugal force on the contestants, that's why several people were tossed off the log, the taller you are and more you could wrap around the log the better, since she so short and has a pretty heavy body weight, she really had to grip the hell out of the log.

You can search youtube for ANW and see some full runs if you're really interested in what the full run looks like, it's definitely tough.

So what was originally just a small viewing party among friends has mutated  into an open invitation to 3 cities (CdA, Post Falls, and Spokane). Nate's New York Pizza is being great about it all and we're working to have a large area outside with a giant 12 ft screen to watch if/when the inside overflows (seating for 55 is available inside). Sounds like TV, newspaper, and a radio station will be there. It's all a bit #overwhelming but will be fun to have everyone there to support me and my Shriners Hospitals for Children fundraising ( www.AmericanNinja4kids.com (http://www.AmericanNinja4kids.com) )

That thing would have made me so freaking sick lol.  After four years of problems with vertigo, even though it's gone now I am still not so good with motion :o

Very cool about the party, cmoore!  Really hoping the fundraiser will kick in big time for you once your episode has aired!

Itsagoodday- is funny watching the people that make it through the log,  they had to stop for a few seconds to let everything stop spinning.  My brother in laws wife had vertigo for a while,   I can't imagine what a horrible feeling that would be.

Tonight's my city qualifier. Tune in to NBC 8pm/7central to see how I did.

Charity fundraiser is @ $7575.00 as of this morning. If you're entertained tonight (or not) please consider kicking a buck or two into the fundraiser (it's for Shriners Hospitals for Children).

Just saw him at about 46 minutes in.    What a rip off,  they didn't show his full run,  Just a few clips.

I'd like to know that too, seems pretty random.   There's some guys they do a 5 minute interview with that don't make it through the first obstacle and other guys who almost finish and they only get highlights of their run.

Lol!

Blame Kim. She reminded me that there was still a chance.

And I am pretty biased on this but I think Chris's story would have been very interesting. Not taking anything away from anyone else but I think his story followed by his run could have topped some of the others I have seen.

They pick the top 30 that go the farthest in the fastest time if I am not mistaken.

Chris placed 24th so he is in to head to the next stage which is city finals in Las Vegas.

correct, if he completes the Vegas finals then he gets a shot at Mt. Midoriyama.  No one has ever beaten Mt. Midoriyama yet, some one came within something like 1/10 of a second last year, but still did not make it. Whoever beats mt. midoriyama gets the $1 million.

Flex:

San Pedro City qualifier starts with 110. Top 30 advance.

San Pedro City finals (airs in 6 weeks) starts with 30. Top 15 advance.

Top 15 from each of the 6 cities (Venice, Kansas City, Houston, Orlando, Pittsburgh, San Pedro) go to Vegas for National finals.

Congratulations on qualifying Chris!  I trust that they saved your profile video to show in the next round.  Most of the profiles they showed were people who didn't qualify.  And by the way your back was shredded as fu-uh-uh-uckkkk in the clip they showed.  And ID's daughter was right, you looked like a kid in the quick face shot they showed.

So... You've already filmed the Finals? I'm assuming that's the case, as they would do it all in a few days and not have to bring everyone back for additional filming.

I can't imagine what you've had to sit through, knowing how you've done and with the amount of people asking about it.

Great interview cmoore!!

A quote for you, from Tommy Douglas (the father of Canada's healthcare system):

I felt that no boy should have to depend either for his leg or his life upon the ability of his parents to raise enough money to bring a first-class surgeon to his bedside. And I think it was out of this experience, not at the moment consciously, but through the years, I came to believe that health services ought not to have a price tag on them, and that people should be able to get whatever health services they require irrespective of their individual capacity to pay.

So my daughters have been so hooked on ANW lately that my wife even made them turn it off of the TV pleading for them to watch something else.  This has been going on since last Sunday when I told her about Chris being on the show.

My 4 year old says she wants to do it one day.  We were at the community playground and I saw her doing the monkey bars.  I praised her asked if she'd like to make up an ANW course which lit up her eyes.  I gave her a run down on which direction to go an what to do on each part.  This is her "training".  :D

San Pedro qualifier was last week. I advanced. You'll see me next in the SanPedro city finals in ~5 weeks
Oh,  I see now, I didn't realize each city had their own qualifier AND finals.

Oh,  I see now, I didn't realize each city had their own qualifier AND finals.

Yep.
Each city has a Qualifier where ~110 competitor field is cut to the top 30.
Then in the City finals that 30 is cut to the top 15.
Top 15 from each city advance to the national finals in Vegas.

The courses look easy on TV, but trust me they are much more daunting in person. Then throw them all together for one gnarly GIANT set and #FEELtheBURN

I was really routing for the blonde stunt girl,  she did awesome, glad she made it through.

That course was ridiculous, especially considering only 1 guy was able to complete it out of all 30 and he was a dumpster diving rookie.

Cmoore- I can't imagine what it's like to run that course, I've done 30+ obstacle course runs, but it's a world of difference when you are the only one running and EVERYONE is staring at you.  Not too mention ANW does their competitions after midnight, so you're already tired before you run............and some of those guys camp out in the parking lot for 8+ days hoping for a walk on chance.
Do they run the qualifier and finals in the same night?

The grip strength obstacles gotta be insanely tough, but I wish they had more variety rather that so much reliance on grip strength.  More obstacles that involve the legs, running, crouching, jumping, balance, pushing, pulling, lifting, etc.  I'll be over here in my recliner critiquing again next week.   ;)

Been killing me to not open up this thread but I never got to watch mondays episode.   (and forgot to record it).   It just aired again, and me and the family watched your run.  All I can say is AWESOME job.    What is crazy is you are right in there competing with guys who have been doing this for years!   Just insane and glad to see a little run of a side story on you.

Just really cool.   My kids are pulling for you and get so excited.   When you came on and flexed, my daughter said...."wow dad he might be bigger than you!"  ;)

Ditto to both quotes.

Lol'ing at the announcers keep going on about age and ripped while calling you by your screen name.  Know what you said earlier,  but somehow I always envision everyone's screen name to be an alter ego that is only known to a select group of people with a common interest.

Sorry everyone. They didnt show my run.

FWIW: I cruised Piston Alley, one armed the Propellar jump, rode thru the Silk Slider, nailed the Jumping Spider but crashed on the Sonic Curve :(

Im out.

Dude, you won either way.

Your cause was spotlighted, inspiring and not for nothing, you did pretty darn well on the courses..

Congratulations.

Bummer that we didn't get to see your run, but awesome work.

Way to raise a bunch of money for a great cause, and inspire a whole lot of kids and adults!

Congrats!

Watched it and even let the kids stay up for a while....  Honestly was dissapointed not to see you run.  Guess you need to dye your hair green or act stupid to get on tv.

Really can say what you accomplished is pretty outstanding.  Considering how many of these guys are 5-7year vets at this.  On another note....you accomplished much more for a great cause!

Congrats and awesome job!

Congrats on your success on your first time doing ANW!  I hope you go again next year.  It seems a most of those who got TV time without completing the course were multi-time repeat competitors who the announcers remembered from previous years.

Of all the obstacles for this Vegas round, I thought the sonic curve looked like the trickiest.  I imagine myself attempting the obstacles, and always saw myself crashing on that one.

Are you thinking about next year?

Could that green haired dude have sucked NBC's cock anymore? Captain NBC he calls himself? And I watched the past few episodes and am surprised and even shocked at how many of those guys ar 5'10' or even 6' and weight 150 or less. Freakin POW victims is what they reminded me of.

Sorry I haven't been good at posting up. I'm doing some unorthodox (for me) stuff in addition to the same old same old but they'll be part of my ninja package so it's all on the hush hush.

The shoulder is improving. Benching 315 pretty cleanly for 1-2 with 1-3 more assisted by the spotter (no pain). Muscle Ups are pain free with only a slight pinch at the last bit when I finish standing on the bar. Weighted Pull Ups (BW+107) feel good for 12-20 reps (no pain). Clapping pull ups only sting slightly and not until the teens. 475 dead is pretty automatic with no zingers. Walking lunges at 275, 315 for reps in the cage.

My balance drills are moving forward exponentially.

Starting to feel more and more bullet proof.

ANW8 is hopeful.

Top, second from Left is Steve Martin. He's a few months older. Steve Martin 44, Travis Rosen 40, Sam Sann 48 and I were the only >40s to make to Vegas. Travis made it to stage 2, then I went the farthest of the >40 after him. The 4 of us did well against guys as much as half our age.

That's awesome.  I remember seeing an interview with Travis where he said he would have retired if he would have climbed the rope faster last season.

Nice. I wish I had more training options locally. The playground and weight room are about it for me around here. #smalltownproblems

Update:

No news. Rumor mill says Idahoans (for the most part) if selected would compete in OKC which is in mid May. So if I havent gotten a call by the end of the month then we'll know. Honestly I dont like my chances. This season they've said they want new competitors and so far the only returning athletes have had huge followings on twitter/IG. I dont have a following so IDK that I fit the mold they'd consider bringing back. I'm training to be ready for it, just not sure of my relative worth to ANW.

Competed in OKC this weekend. Now I need your help to help the Shriners cause:

ANW seems legitimately interested in telling the my tale helping Shriners and how they've begun integrating Ninja training into kids rehabilitation, but we need to help them to make it happen. There needs to be "visible" support on social media to prove the story will "sell."

I need people to rally the troops to support me on Twitter ( @cmoore_ANW ). Follows, retweets, and support tweets with my handle @cmoore_ANW, @ninjawarrior, and the hashtag #AmericanNinjaWarrior.

So Ninja no one even saw me.  ;D Sorry everyone, while I had a pretty good run, it never made it out of editing. I finished 24th (ironically the same finish position in quals as last year). The top 30 move on to City finals so you may see me in 4 weeks or so.

By far the Log Runners (both this year and last year) are the most dangerous obstacle I've seen on the show. I own them but they demand respect and are much harder than they appear.

Thanks. tough night for me. They changed the swing armature and I didnt fully understand the impact until it was too late (I had blown through it so easily in quals I didnt even really consider the obstacle a threat going into finals. Sigh).  Still happy I made it as far as I did, getting to the City Finals at all is pretty damn cool.

I still wish they'd showed my quals run tho.
