Title: Substitute Military Press for Overhead Press?

Starting on SL 5x5, wondering if there's any benefit to substituting the overhead press with the military press instead. The SL guide says, "Your stance should be shoulder-width apart because heels together is a Military Press and harder." Wouldn't a harder exercise yield better results?

I don't think the stance is going to make a HUGE difference, but do whatever allows you to safely move more weight, which is probably feet shoulder width apart.

SL is about building to big compound lifts as fast as possible while in the Newb stage.  OH Press allows you to move bigger weight.  Follow the program or else you will stall soon.

Heels together is not needed for military press.
Military press in just supposed to have no lower body momentum transferred to the bar else it becomes a push press.
You can do seated OHP to make it very hard to cheat.

I don't see why you can't train with some slight pushing as long as you are consistent and don't do some silly crossfit-esque 95% push abortion.

I've always done OHP seated.  Kills my lower back to do it standing.
