All the size and none of the strength.
« on: April 04, 2017, 06:23:59 PM »
Guy I had never seen before at the gym today, had a decent upper build with some good sized traps. One of those guys who look like they could bench a Buick while eating a sammich.  Dude was a total fukkin joke, mixed grip with DL's and worked up to a whopping #295 & was huffing and puffing and thought he was going to die. Later on he's outside chain smoking  ::)

Maybe he was off for a while?

When I started lifting after 7 years off I had some muscle still but weak as fuck.

Hell when I came back after 3 months off last year I was barely benching 185 and it took me a while to get my DL and Squat back over 4 plates.

When I was doing 531 I worked up to a 375 DL, but I needed grips to do it. I didn't look very hyooge in the upper body though. I also thought I was gonna die after every set like that. Of course, with my asthma I think it was entirely possible.  :o  ;D

Maybe it's like Flex said and he's just coming back to it. See how he does as time goes by.

Guy sorta like that at my gym.  Huge, probably over 250 at about 5'9".  Super defined huge chest, shoulders and arms traps, and wears spandex tops to show off.  But I've never seen his legs and he has a big belly.  All he ever does is machines for shoulders and chest, about the same weights I would use or less.  And he spends most of his time resting, looking at his phone, or chit-chatting with others.   4 years at this gym, he's done the same thing that whole time.
PRs:
OHP 140 - 8/27/15
BP 245 - 4/7/17
DL 345 - 8/26/15
Squat - ugh
Leg Press 670x2 - 12/10/15

Lol, smoking really does mess with your strength and endurance for sure.
