Ok, so I've been out of the gym scene for >4years before signing up and going to the one I'm at now (was a basement lifter).

What the hell is up with camping out on a machine or bench and stretch a simple warmup set and a 3x8 into a 20 minute session with 5 minutes of smartphone gazing & typing?!?

I started today with deads 4x6, went on to lat pulldowns 4x8, ham curls 3x10, cable rows 3x8, lower back extensions x3, and cable curls before this dude in the next half rack was done with incline bench and started on my second set of deads!

Other than smart phone abuse, there's nothing too weird about my gym. Plenty of senior citizens,  usually use all the machines every time they're in, only one light set per machine, I think it's awesome just cause they're getting active and very cordial to be around.

What I can't stand is people who will work next to a bench but not use the bench for anything other than to hold their crap. I wanted the incline bench last week for DB bench. I noticed a guy standing next to it doing some curls or something, with his crap on the bench. I finally asked him if he was using the bench and he said no. At least he was polite enough to move without me really even asking.

I posted at length in my journal about this.  There's a chick that comes into the gym every single fucking day and puts all her shit on one of the bench press benches then goes and does cardio for 45 minutes, then comes back and puts more shit on the bench then goes elsewhere to stretch and do other stupid shit.  I don't get it.

Not sure if they are assholes or clueless twats but I can have a bench setup maybe 4' away from the db rack and using the bench for db flyes. Every fuckin time some clown will come up and grab a db or 2 and stand right in front of me & my bench while they do their lift 6' from the rack and staring at the mirror. Now mind you the whole damn weight area is lines with mirrors so no reason to stand there, nor any reason to stand 6' from the rack much less right in front of me.

People are clueless.

On Saturday I was benching and had all my shit behind the bench, bar with plates loaded, etc.  Obvious it was in use.

I went to spot Lisa and I come back and some chick is standing there with her water bottle on the bench while she is texting.

I walked up and was getting ready to do my set and she didn't even move.  Really?  You fucking cow get your shit off my bench and get your ass away from here.

Yea I don't get this either. I'm starting to see people leaving weights on bars now too.

I just ask if they are using the bench and the person usually apologizes and moves their shit, never had a problem with that.

I did have to ask a father and daughter to get off the flat benches one day.  There were only 4 flat benches (the actual flat bench bench presses) 2 of them had guys bench pressing and this father and daughter were each occupying their own doing fucking crunches!! I let them know if they were bench pressing there is plenty of floor space to do that shit and they moved on.....seriously, what kind of stupidity is that.  I also told a guy to get out of the one and only power rack bc they fucker was in there doing WRIST CURLS!!!
