21st Power Challenge
« on: October 02, 2017, 08:41:01 AM »
Yikes, I'm like two weeks out.  Just checked the roster and the Sunday PM session has 65 lifters!  WTF I was initially relieved that I was in the Sunday pm rather than the Saturday thinking I'd be out of there at a reasonable hour, but with that many lifters it's gonna be a shit show.

While the roster may show 65, it hasn't been updated with the drop outs.  It's more like 55 lifters on Sunday PM.

I haven't paid close attention to the Roster, as I've been working other parts of the Meet.

Looking forward to sitting in the judges chair while you lift.

That's good news Alex, still hope it's not like the Saturday PM sessions are.  I've done that meet four or so years in a row now, and wouldn't do it again if I have to do the Saturday PM.  It's just too long of a day, and not fun.  Looking forward to seeing you there.  You bringing the fam?

Sabrina will be there, not sure if we're getting a sitter, or if the wrecking crew will be there.  If you're bringing the kiddo's it's likely they can all hang together and make it less stressful for you.  We live about 15 minutes from the Venue.

If we get a sitter, we could arrange it to have your kids at our place and give you less stress at the Meet.

Alex, thank you for the offer.  I'm not sure if I'm bringing the kids yet.  I'll let you know, but I'm thinking of going solo.

Submitted my openers. 485/310/515 if I’m rested and in a good place mentally there’s really no reason not to hit some pr’s. Working Saturday, but going to eat and chill once I leave the office.

I don't think I'd be able to work the day before a meet.  My luck it'd add stress on top of what I already had.  Plus except for my last meet, I'm usually cutting weight and miserable anyway.

Had a crappy meet. 6 for 9. Went conservative on my second squat with 510 and pulled something in my left inner thigh on the decent. Got the lift, but passed on my third. Got my second bench of 325, but couldn’t lock out 340. Pattern continues with deads. Got 540, then couldn’t get 565 past my knees.  Have pretty mixed feelings about this meet. Feel good being able to hit those numbers on an off day, but feel like I wasted my best training to date. Training went almost too well. My body was just not meet ready, and I’m feeling more beat up today than I have after a meet in a long time.  I think I just did too quick of a meet prep for my body. Did the strongman comp mid August, and then jumped right into meet prep. Meet ran way behind and even thoug I cut right out of there, it was still after 10 when I got in my car. Didn’t get home until almost midnight. Just goes to show that even with Gene, Amy, and our own Alex, if you don’t have good loaders, spotters, and judges it doesn’t matter who’s running the meet. Last meet I did that Alex ran was the best of the eleven meets I’ve done. The key was that he had a who’s who of New England powerlifters there for a support staff for loading judging and spotting.  Alex was a class act as usual, very well liked among the lifters.  He was “the cool guy in the kilt”.

Very good shit, right there.
It was indeed a long day.  We had two spotters in the morning, that apparently hadn't had their coffee yet.  We were unfortunately understaffed, for spotters, and it hurt in the long run.
I was home and in bed at 215am.  I was last man out of the Venue.
I can say, with confidence, that this was one of the nicer venues that RPS has had a Meet in.  Even more son, when consider where this Meet was held last year.

I wrapped a guys knees for him at this Meet.  Left imprints in his leg, and his GF was apparently concerned because his lower legs were turning purple.

Congrats, Tooth, on getting in there and staying with it, and getting it done.

Damn that's a late night for a Sunday.  How's the thigh?  No injury I hope.  I can't imagine doing a strongman comp so close to a PL meet.  That's short turn around.

She should have thanked you.

Also; please wrap my knees for me at my next meet.

I always do my own.  It sucks.

The guy that got wrapped by Alex was super thankful.  I find the Geared, and "geared" guys at meets are usually dinks, but I've seen this guy at a meet before and hes super nice.  He posted a picture of his legs on facebook after the wraps came off and you could practically read the brand of wraps that where used.  I wrap myself at meets because I wrap myself in training.  Some day I need to have someone wrap me that knows what they are doing.  Just afraid I'd miss depth if I was properly wrapped. I barley make depth with my lame ass wraps.

Great venue, but I'd take the horse shit venue last year to have it back on the north shore again.  The support staff Alex had was definitely not A team.  It's a shame because Alex really worked his ass off, and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into hosting a meet.

The leg thing feels fine unless I squat down or try to flex it.  I don't think it's anything serious because there's no bruising.  The rest of me feels like it's covered in boo boos though.  I spent yesterday taking all my crap off my boat because I'm trading it in for another, so that didn't help.  The boat is pretty big, and it was like unloading a friken clown car.  My pick up truck looked like I should have been on the shoe Sanford and Sons when I left the marina, then I had to take all that crap off the truck and find homes for it all.  Nearly filled the dumpster at the marina to boot.

Now I just need to find another meet before the end of the year for some redemption.  Bottom line this time around is that I just wasn't strong enough.  Need to do something about that.

Looking for my next meet.  I feel like a junkie with the need to keep signing up for meets.  It's just that I feel I need the accountability of a meet to push me.  Only problem is my leg is more banged up than I originally thought.  I was so covered in boo boo's that I didn't notice my leg has a good bruise.  It's starting to travel around the back of the knee.  I still think it's nothing big, but it might sound odd I don't bruise.  I can count on one hand the amount of times I've bruised and they all but one where with muscle tears.  The odd one was a butchered blood donation, but only had that happen once.  I want to get at it again, but I think heavy squats are off the table for a little bit.  Body weight squats, stairs, and getting in and out of my truck are the only times I feel it other than being sensitive to the touch.
