Here we go again
« on: August 21, 2017, 09:30:54 AM »
So, my strongman competition was fun, but man that stuff is hard.  On to my next powerlifting meet.  I'm signed up for RPS 21st power challenge.  Our very own Alex is running the meet.  I did one of his meets last year, and he runs a meet like a pro.  I'm not thrilled about the change of location, but that's the least of my worries.  Hadn't done a barbell back squat since my last meet April 17th as I've been training for strongman.  Had my first squat session last Thursday and for some reason I was surprised at how awkward regular squats felt.  Had to work up to a 7,8,9 rpe double.  Worked up to a 455 double.  It moved well, but I was really struggling with depth so I cut it at 455.  Benched yesterday up to a 290 double.  I'll try to find the vid, but second day back to powerlifting training and I feel like I've got a long road to go in a short time.

Where/when is that meet?

I am going back to the gym tomorrow.  Took two weeks off to recover from the Buffalo meet.

I doubt I will be able to squat or deadlift for a while though...

That Meet is Gene and Ame running it, but I'm doing all the local coordination.  And compared to last year, the short extra drive to get there, will all be worth it.

The Power Challenge is at MAssasoit college in Brockton, MA.  October 14th and 15th.

It will be a great Meet.  I've got a slew of supplement vendors coming in on October 14th.

Do not fear The Iron, for it does not care.

Unless acted upon by a Superior Force.
Squat: 545; Bench: 350; Deadlift: 610; Total: 1490

Driving through or around Boston sucks, but you are right it's going to be worth it.  I'm in the overflow on Sunday, and I'm actually very happy to be there.  This will be my fourth time doing that meet and the PM session is just too long for my decrepit little old soul.
