New England Intro to Strongman 4

Ok, so I'm signed up for another strongman thing.  I have until April 27th to figure out how to do some new stuff.  This one is not as bad as the last one I did as there is a masters category, so the weights are lighter. 

Log Clean and Press: 205
Axle Deadlift: 400
Sandbag Carry 100': 175
Hercules hold: 130 / hand
Odd Object Load: TBA (so far there's a stone and fire hydrant, but I think it's going to be five objects)

I think I'm doing a deadlift only pl meet a couple weeks prior.  Should be fun.

Where/How do you train for this stuff?

I personally think I would suck at strongman stuff.

I bought a bunch of stuff for the house for the meet last summer, and I trained with Eric Dawson at his gym.  Eric's gym got closed due to a shitty neighbor, so I'm not sure if he's available this go around, but I'm going to give him a call.  There's a couple other gyms relatively close to me that have strongman stuff.  So far I have Farmers handles, a yoke (only holds 650lbs), rogue power pin (for duck walks still can't do these for shit), sandbag that holds 150lbs, 12" log (got a 10" too, but gave it to Eric because men's events are always with a 12"), and just added an axle and hex bar. 

What makes you think you'd be lousy at strongman?  I'm tiny with little girl hands, not strong, and I'm still giving it a go.  It's harder than a powerlifting meet, but it's also much more fun.  The judges are jumping up and down and cheering so loud you can barely hear the crowd, and they're yelling too.  It's really makes you dig deep.

First time playing with the Axle.  Not a whole lot of weight programmed for last night, but I can certainly see where grip is going to be the limiting factor.  I was tempted to put some real weight on there, but I was a good boy and stuck with my programming.

I really want to love the log, but it hates me.  This was my first time getting my hands on it since the summer. Definitely not one of my better skills.

Second time playing with the axle.  Was a pussy with squats tonight, so I decided to have fun. Double overhand grip hit a wall at 300.  Crazy, I couldnít budge it. But this 390 switch grip felt really easy. The contest weight is only 375, so this should be an event where I do well. Came in first at the last strongman meet I did, and Iíd like to keep that going since itís one of the few events I can actually do well.  (Very few).

time to defend your record? Does strongman work like that?

They do have rankings and such, but different organization.  Iíd just love to place in a contest this year.
