Title: Here goes nothing
Post by: tooth on December 27, 2017, 01:24:39 PM
Next meet is this Saturday.  I've done a few at this spot, but not since the gym owner decided to start his own fed.  He was part of epf which isn't the greatest, but it's close to my house and he's a good guy.  I'm not expecting it to be any different, but who knows.  My past few weeks of training have really turned things around.  As allot of you know Josh Bryant has been doing my programming for the past four plus years and he really knows how to peak me for a meet.  Just going to try to get a pr or two, but deep down inside I really want a good meet.

My attempts aren't written in stone yet, but here's my current thoughts.

495-520(for a 5lb pr)-540+

300-315-340+

525-555(for a 5lb pr)-575+(could care less about 575, I want to see 600 at some point)

Should be fun.

Ever hear of a meet with one lifter!  :o. Well, now you have. I showed up and there where three familiar faces, the guy that owns the gym who usually spots or judges, his girlfriend that usually judges, and another guy that sometimes lifts but usually judges. They said, hey itís your meet, your the only one. It was awkward to say the least, but I give him credit for running the whole thing for one guy. We made the best of it, but Iím definitely a meet lifter. I do way better under the gun and ccrazyness of a meet. So, I had a really hard time getting in the right state of mind.  Iíd like to think thatís why my deadlift sucked.  8).

Squat
475-520 missed on depth- 520 good.

Bench
300- 320- 340 miss. Shoulder has been a wreck and have only had pain free bench sessions the past few weeks so I wasnít expecting much here.

Deadlift
525-555miss-555 miss
Went home and pulled 495 as fast as I ever had, them put 565 and it didnít go far. But I usually need the pressure of a meet to deadlift. Really thought the deadlift was going to be my lift today until I found out i was lifting solo.

1,365 total

This guy has been running meets forever and was under epf until this year. He started his own thing and claims heís gtg with powerlifting watch going forward. Iíve seen as many as three flights worth of lifters and as few as 6 at his meets, but one is a lonely number.

It was odd.  I guess I won?

Your competition was so scared they didn't even show up. Think of it that way. Plus, you've had meet experience with no pressure of actually competing.

Welcome to the site.

These days there are so many weight, age and equipment classes that most meets I don't have any direct competition either.

Last summer I got injured and got only my squat opener, a decent bench PR and did a token deadlift due to the injury and still got 'First Place'.

This situation is still quite unique.  I wonder why they didn't just cancel it if they had no competitors???

I know the guy that owns the gym/ runs the meets.  I think he didn't want to be a dick and cancel knowing I had trained for it.  It was really odd, but still kind of had fun.  Got a 5 lb squat pr, but I'd like to think if it wasn't such a strange situation I'd have gotten some big pr's.  I was ready for a meet, but at least got a chance to lift with spotters.  And, it got me out of my basement.

Your wife really should let you out of there more often.
