Just an update on my "strongman" training.  Josh is slowly adding the implements into my training, but it's still mostly strength training.

Attached videos are duck walks with 165, log clean and press triples with 155, and farmers walks with 185.  Also threw in a video of 110 lb dips for 5.  My biggest hang up so far is my conditioning.  I'm gasping for air like a fish out of water every time I do the strongman stuff.

Really struggling with my conditioning with this strongman stuff.  It's been a real eye opener as to how out of shape I really am.  It's one thing to be able to move heavy weight.  It's not worth a dam thing if I can't move around without getting out of breath.  I've had five training sessions with Eric Dawson so far.  The guy is a great teacher, and I'm really blessed to have such a good resource less than an hour from my house.  Last Friday was pretty frustrating though.  My seasonal allergies have been kicking my butt.  I didn't feel congested Friday, but my chest felt dry.  It didn't help that I drove my slingshot to the gym and sucked in the better part of an hours drive of pollen on the way.  We started with duck walks.  The weight felt light, but I was really gasping for air.  We only went to 250lbs for 60', but it took me a REALLY long time to catch my breath after.  We did very light ohp after and even though the weight felt super light, I was sucking wind after each set.  I really never experienced anything like it.  Close in my crossfit days, but never quite this bad.  I've got to have some nasal polyps removed and I'm hoping that improves my breathing a bit.  I just pray to God my allergies are under control on the day of the competition.

So far it's been frustrating, but fun.  I really needed this kick in the ass.  My goal at this point is to not have a goose egg on any of the events.  Anything above that will be gravy.

Tried allergy injections?
I started them back up over 2 years ago after being off of them for over 20 years. Made a HUGE difference! I don't think my eyes have itched once the past 2 summers and I wasn't even close to being stuffed up.

I've got to try something.  I've been sucking wind so bad it's pathetic.

Finished my workout last night with farmers carries and backwards sled drags.  This was my first time using the sled, and it's no joke.  Haven't dedicated enough time to conditioning for this strongman comp, and I feel like its sneaking up on me.  Log cleans still really get me sucking wind with just a couple reps, and I haven't worked with anything close to the competition weight yet.  Feeling fooooooked.

When I watched the vids all I could think about was "do not go quietly into the night, make some noise by dragging heavy shit around and grunting"  ;D

Actually sent my neighbors a text this week letting them know they should tell me to quit it if I'm making too much noise.  They told me they haven't heard a peep.  Just gives me more incentive to not drop the weights.

Did a 550 lb yoke for 50', but only made it to around 40' with 600lbs.  I need to do 700 for 30' in August. Dropping the 600 was more mental than physical, so I'm feeling pretty good about the yoke.  700 is still going to suck.
