Strongman / Re: Time for something fun!
« Last post by tooth on Today at 10:29:44 AM »
Kind of crazy, but I really want to do another one.  It was much harder, but much more fun than a powerlifging meet.  I'm signed up for Alex's RPS meet in October, so I need to get the strongman thing out of my head for a couple months.  There's a competition the week before the pl meet, but I know that's not a great idea.  But, none of my ideas are usually great ideas.

At a powerlifting meet the judges look like they would much rather be somewhere else, but at this strongman meet the judges where cheering and jumping up and down.  The only things that where crappy was that warm ups where a real shit show.  Everyone warms up at the same time, but there's not enough crap for everyone to use, and you have very little time to warm up.  I'm not one to do much warm up at a meet, but you at least need to get your body primed for the weight.  The other thing was that it smelled much worse than a powerlifting meet.  Just way too many fat sweaty people in one place.  Smelled like a bag of old sweaty onions.

Diggin the 5x squats, great way to add to the ol base.
And that TnG on bench is no joke. Don't think I would have had any desire to throw DL in after the other stuff, so kudos Ron!

Sounds like a couple rough work days, looks like a good squat/dl day.

Speaking of pergola's. I put this up over the weekend, going to put a 12 or 14 footer across the top front with nice end cuts to make it look better and on the inside do something like the second pic.  In a few months, when the wood dries, I'll stain it all.

Looks like you got it nice and square!
With a frame like that there are so many ways you could go to making it look awesome.
If you haven't thought about it yet you might consider decorative knee braces (that are also functional) as a way of increasing lateral stability. Fairly easy to make with a compound miter saw and a jig saw. Or just buy them, like this one https://www.architecturaldepot.com/BKT16X18X4S.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=832146907&utm_adgroup=42186724945&utm_term=&utm_content=196253803636&utm_device=c&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIw8aJnJDa1QIVxV5-Ch3KJAeNEAQYASABEgIcY_D_BwE&ppcsclkid=dI9MwJ3QkSqK&ppcstrkid=1115274693&ppcsu=xhg7f5djqtopedhcra

This one is kind of cool and it would fit on the main board and add the look for a decorative header. http://www.contractortalk.com/attachments/f4/8166d1201149574-pergola-owen-pergola-knee-braces-2-web.jpg

DL and squats

150x5
185x5
225x3
245x5
280x5
315x6 (5+)

Squats
240x5x5

Past few days a nightmare. First working sets last Friday the 11th I get a call that gov inspectors are here....grrr. Don't get done with them until 6:15pm on Friday and they came back on Monday. Another late night (got home at 7:30pm) yesterday. Too mentally wiped out to hit anything up the weekend so just worked on the new 4x4's for the pergola above the deck. While not straight lifting I like to think 5 hours on Sat and 7 hours on Sunday was a combination of aerobic, lifting and circuit training all in one.  ;)

Today's lifting went well. Skipped extra sets on DL, which gave me time to get all 5 sets done on squats. The BBB squats, per the calculator, had me with a 10lb increase from 230 - 240. The last few reps on set 4 and 5 were a bit rough but I got them dun.

Oh, and finally at 184 BW. See if I can get to 183 by weeks end (Sunday).
