I bought an Edge SSB - great bar
« on: March 26, 2018, 04:56:18 PM »
I've not put in that much time with an SSB in the past, but have used the Elite FTS one several times before. I've never liked the way it folds you over on grinders and throws the centre of gravity off way too much compared to a back squat.

I understand that if someone is trying to work on support strength for a multiply high bar squat then it would be useful but it always sucked for doing rep work

Well, happily I can say that the Edge SSB is nothing like that. The COG seems much closer to a real back squat and even in Oly shoes it doesn't try to kick me forward on every rep.

Highly reccomended, very well made and I'm planning on doing 90% of my squatting with it from now on.

The sleeves run a little small but it literally only takes a strip of duct tape to widen them enough to make regular collars bite tightly

I'll have to check it out!  My gym flooring just got delivered today.  I think I will be setting up home gym again soon.  I have a lot more room now, so I might shop for some more stuff:)

315 including delivery. The more I use it the more I appreciate how well designed it is, like the guy in the video says this is the way an SSB -should- be balanced, it should feel like a real squat, and not be constantly kicking you forward and turning a leg exercise into a test of upper back stability.

The long handles are great too. I tried 365 x 5 paused last time and the pause felt good, no kicking you out the groove at the bottom like most other bars.

I'm going to see how 405 feels next session :)

I've been using this for a couple of months and still love it.

Like all SSBs its possible to lose upper back tightness and grind out ugly reps, but that's down to the lifter not the equipment.

Feels good to be able to squat again, I'm up to 365 x 8 paused as of last session and would like to get to ultimately get to 405 x 10 with a pause (that was my goal for backsquats before my last surgery took backsquats out of my toolbox)

Since my car wreck my lower back and hips have been especially shitty but this bar doesnt bother them at all. I use my oly shoes to squat in and it feels great, no pitching forward at all

I wish I'd bought one of these years ago honestly

The whole point is for it to try and fold you over!  It puts the weight in a front squat position for a reason.  My elite ssbar is my favorite bar.

yeah, nah.

Update, I tried regular back BB squatting for a couple of sessions but my shoulder couldn't take it and I had to basically 'hold' the bar with 2 fingertips... trying to rep 405 with a loose upper back sucked.

Unfortunately my garage is just too damn hot to squat in during texas summer so I guess I'll be sticking to front squats for a couple of months :(
