For those who squat with wraps at meets
« on: April 16, 2016, 11:22:25 AM »
So first time using wraps at a meet and I'm trying to figure out how far out I need to wrap.  I timed myself yesterday and it took about a minute, including ten seconds of confusion when I started to wrap my left knee in the wrong direction and had to start over lol.  The good news is that I'm not dropping them constantly anymore though  ::)  I also have to put on wrist wraps, which takes about 10-15 seconds, but I can do those as I'm walking.

I'm tentatively thinking that I should start when they call the name of the lifter before me?

Takes me a while to wrap; I start when I'm 3rd out.

Oh wow, that's way farther out.  You're probably doing a much better job of wrapping than I am though  ;D

My Odin knee wraps are crazy stiff; wrapping with them is a workout in itself.  I am generally out of breath by the time I am done.  LOL.

Ha, yeah that would be way more wrap than I'm using!  I've just got basic Iron Z's, somebody gave them to me but I think they're only 2m.  I'm still at the beginner stage of wrapping where I will be delighted if I

(a) get them on my legs
(b) in the vicinity of my knees
(c) one per leg
(d) with sorta consistent tension
(e) and they don't fall off immediately
(f) in a reasonable time frame, like less than 24 hours.

I'm with Flex. 3rd out, and I start wrapping.  I'm a bit winded when I finish wrapping, so I need a moment to catch my breath.  I've often wanted to find someone that I can train with, that is strong enough to wrap my knees properly, but to no avail.

If I were you, I'd start when you're roughly two minutes out, and stay calm while you wrap.  Having a little extra time, is better than rushing to get up there.

I'm usually 2.5 out when I start. No matter how you time it, there wont be enough time and you'll be rushed, or some assclown will be taking their sweet time and running the clock out while your all wrapped up.

This happened to me twice last year;  same jackass both times.  Ran the clock out.  Fucker.

Great, thanks guys!!!  Sounds like I should start a bit earlier, so I'll try wrapping two people out on my first attempt and see how that goes.

some assclown will be taking their sweet time and running the clock out while your all wrapped up.

I haven't seen too many chicks do that trick, so hopefully I'll be safe lol.

Oh... and a question I might as well throw in here.  Maybe Alex would know this, would Gene be the appropriate person to email to change me from Raw Classic to Raw Modern?  I only ask because I actually did email him several weeks ago with the request, didn't hear back, just saw the roster and I'm still in Raw Classic.  The only email address I had was his from the entry form, is there another???

I'm getting stressed just reading this.  My last meet I was going to squat with sleeves only because the wrapping stresses me.  Leading up to the meet my squats where junk, so on meet day I decided to wrap.  Squats felt amazingly easy because I hadn't wrapped in a while.  I'm with the others though usually at least 2 out.  And as mentioned there is never enough time, or your behind "that guy"(or girl).
