RPS Mid-Atlantic States/Military Championship
« on: May 02, 2014, 01:08:55 PM »
Inspired and encouraged by a lot of you guys from last years NY RPS meet in August, I began thinking of powerlifting after my cut was finished.  Last August, I was still a fat-body but making good progress on my 5x5 routine.  I was shedding fat and getting stronger every week.  I was enjoying the newb gains and I was finally using man-sized weights getting my strength back after taking almost 15 years off of lifting.   I finished my cut in October dropping from 205 to 165 and switched to bulk mode getting back to 175 then registered for the RPS Mid-Atlantic States/Military Championship held here in Maryland.  I registered at 165 and was going to cut back down.  However, when I got to around 167-8 I found that I was losing too much strength even cutting at a rate of 1lb a week so i decided to just be happy for my first meet and start bulking.  I didn't see the need to put the additional pressure of a cut on myself for my first meet.  Priority #1 for me was to PR every lift of 335/245/365 (945).

So tomorrow is my big day.  It took forever to get here but time flew by the last cycle of my 5/3/1 program.  I weighed in this morning at a happy 173.6 and if all goes well I'll be in the 180's by tomorrow morning thanks to Alex's nutritional guidance on carbing up.  :)  I haven't had pancakes in decades and forgot how tasty they are.  I gobbled down a few packages of mini pancakes and wish I'd brought more with me.   I also ate a couple of bananas, apple, and gatorade on my drive home from the weigh in.  Tonight I'm taking the wife and kids to her favorite Italian restaurant so I can get a plate-sized lasagna and she can have her crab cakes.  She just got back in town after a 2-week business trip and will have to turn around and go on another Monday.

The sad part is that I will have nobody there to cheer for me or video anything for me.  My wife wants to spend time with the kids and there's no way my 2 and 6 year old will stay out of trouble at a meet.  I'm going to try to buddy up with someone and see if I can fix that though so I have something.

I'll try to update this thread from the meet following each final lift.  My openers are 320/220/340 (880) and I hope to build up to 350/250/400 (1000) to get my 1000lb notch.

Wish me luck and big thanks to Alex who has been very helpful with everything leading up to this competition.  I look forward to competing with a lot of you guys in August.  I'm registered for that one too. :D

That's a great start, and background that I know.

I'm glad I was able to help out and give the guidance you needed.  You're going to be walking 3 feet off the floor tomorrow night, and in awe of what you've done.

You've done something that 99% of people never could do.  That's step up and Do it.

At the beginning of every Meet, there is a Rules clinic.  Gene will ask if there are any questions.  That'd be the time to ask if someone might be willing to help out with the videos.

I have a feeling you're going to break a few milestones tomorrow.

I know you're already warming up, but wanted to add in "Kill It, like Flex does a spider."

I'll be watching for updates.

3 for 3 on squat. 300, 320, 340. 300 was tough because I paused at the bottom. Changed strategy going forward. Vids tonight.

Dude! That's Awesome!  If I recall, that's a new PR for Squat? !!

Don't forget your Commands! On the Bench, you do have a pause.

Continue the Crushing!
